NaNoWriMo 2016 – A Wild Pokémon Appeared!

Well heck.

I know what you’re thinking – or what you’re thinking if you know the background.  The background, which I’ve raved about using every communication channel known to man, is: today, Pokémon Sun & Moon came out officially in the UK.  I received my copy yesterday, after some chasing.  And I now have a significant and problematic distraction from my writing available.

If there were any doubt about the distracting power of PokéMoon (the version I bought for myself), I usually get some good writing time in on the train out of London, when I take it.  I took it this morning.  Guess how much time I spent writing.

Again: well heck.

NaNoWriMo 2016 – A Tale of Tired Writing

I consider myself quite good at the artform of Tired Writing now – at least, the planned side of it.  Don’t expect any tips, though.  This is merely a dramatic, and self-pitying, retelling.

You probably think this is from Saturday/Sunday night, right?  After all, the last entry on my liveblog (which felt more like a deadblog at the time) was during the final sprint.  I’d woken at nine that day, and failed completely to sleep in the afternoon.  I must have been pretty tired by five o’clock on Sunday morning, surely.

Er, no.  That was only mild exhaustion.  I had yet to learn the meaning of truly Tired Writing.

NaNoWriMo 2016 – A Very Quick Update

The tag ‘what am I doing’ has never been more appropriate.  I don’t really have much to type about, and yet I said I’d blog every non-Friday day (and have already missed one).  And this is going up on a Friday anyway.  Bad Balladeer.

I could talk to you about ML Appreciation Day.  About how grateful I am for it, and all the thanks we receive – but also, how it feels a bit more artificial than non-MLAD appreciation.  And why isn’t it at the end of the month?  We’ve still got plenty of time to waive all dessert to any appreciation!  What if we accidentally destroy the Big Green Bookshop doing ANLI?

But I shouldn’t go on at length about that.  I’m an ML, and while all views expressed here are my own (or my characters’), it ain’t great to criticise an event originating from on high too much.  And so many people, including fellow MLs, really do love it.  So, grand for them.

Which leaves me with my writing, and looking forward to ANLI.

NaNoWriMo 2016 – Up All Night To Prep. ANLI

Fair warning: this blog is going to start talking a bit about the All-Night Lock-In, in the days leading up to it.  Which is rubbish if you’re at 11 on the waiting list, should be good if you’re at 3 or above, and which isn’t interesting at all if you didn’t sign up.  (What else is new, I hear you cry.)

To categories 1 and 3, I’m sorry.  I can’t help it.  ANLI is not only very exciting if you’re going, it’s also a significant amount of work (and fun) for us MLs.  So a blog that talks about the ML life needs to mention ANLI.

NaNoWriMo 2016 – Is This Feminism?

So hey!  It’s been a while since I actually focussed on the contents of my writing.  Today I’d like to introduce a new character, talk about my questions to myself with writing her, and finish with a cricket joke that sort of peters out a bit.

The character might be interesting at least.  Freya Wood is the other female in the four-strong group of the Heroes of Light.  She’s also the designated fighter.

NaNoWriMo 2016 – You Can Always Catch Up

It’s the start of another week, after a hectic low-sleep weekend, and my motivation is low.  Furthermore, I slept remarkably badly and it’s already relatively late.

That, I’m afraid, means a quick blog entry today.  It also means that my word count for today has been pretty bad.  I was only just ahead of the curve yesterday, and I generally hope to get a few weekdays in before I fall behind.  Today is not a few days in.

Luckily, I can always catch up.  Repeat after me… no, don’t really, this isn’t out loud, it would be silly.  But I can.

We all can.

NaNoWriMo 2016 – NaNoRilla

I didn’t do a blog entry Friday, which was expected.  I didn’t do a blog entry Saturday, which wasn’t.  And my loyal readers (I presume I have some?) are actually quite lucky to be getting a blog entry today.  I didn’t sleep well last night, having stayed out for later than was reasonable and had more drinks (of more varieties) than was reasonable too.

The idea on Saturday was that I’d liveblog NaNoRilla (and publish in the evening, thus defeating the point of liveblogging), talking about what it is, why it’s great, and why y’all should do it.

But I forgot.  So I’m doing it today.

NaNoWriMo 2016 – Writing on Wheels

Right/write!  Misery over (within the pages of this blog anyway): let’s finish off my backlog of things I want to blog about, and discuss writing while travelling.

I can’t stress how important this is to me.  If I didn’t write on my Monday morning commute, on my way to social events, and on my way back from write-ins, I’d… well, I’d have written fewer words this month.
